My name is Marissa. I am a former teen mom who decided to rewrite her story with the help of my biggest fan, Kevin. Together we have two kids, a boy, and a girl (Ty, 13, and Lina, 11). Before becoming a full-time content creator I was a teacher, Higher Education Administrator, and an Ed Tech Consultant.
TargetWhileBlack got its name to put a positive spin on a negative term. When you are doing something while Black, you bring the flavor and the culture with you—not the negativity. On my pages, I highlight Black brands, representation, and all-around cool things I find in Retail. My overall goal is to raise awareness and increase exposure to Black brands in retail stores.
As a result, TargetWhileBlack has now expanded two pages (TargetWhileBlack and RetailWhileBlack) showing everyone how to buy Black in all retail spaces such as the mall, the grocery store, and other box brands. I have promoted Alaffia, Brillant or BS, Kahawa 1893, and many more Black brands found in retailers like Ulta, Publix, Sprout, Barnes and Noble, and Target.
